Offline math tutor for Filipino Grade 4 to 6 learners, with Gemma 4 running on a laptop instead of the cloud. Built by a team of four at the AppBuildersPH Local AI hackathon.
Built by team OHMAKINIGKA! (four builders) at the AppBuildersPH Hackathon 2026: Local AI (Makati, October 9 to 10, 2026). SIBOL (Student-centered Inclusive Bilingual Offline Learning) is an offline-first PWA for the DepEd MATATAG math curriculum. Its tutor, Teacher Gabo, answers step by step in English, Tagalog or Taglish and can read the answer aloud. The answers come from Gemma 4 E2B running in LM Studio on the team's own MacBook, with no cloud AI in the answer path.
Three learning modes are designed to support learners who need a different pace: Kalma (Calm) keeps replies to two short sentences on a plain screen, Pakinig (Listen) writes for read-aloud with large type and high contrast, and Hakbang (Step by Step) gives one step at a time with a check question. With Wi-Fi off, the laptop still answers; phones on the same hub get the same tutor and fall back to bundled explanations when they can't reach it. On an Apple M5 MacBook Air, mode replies came back in a median of 0.6 to 1.2 seconds.
